Open Call – The Great Gatsby in San Diego

California Ballet Company presents the West Coast Premiere of Septime Webre’s The Great Gatsby. Webre’s choreography fuses contemporary ballet, jazz and tap with live music and narrative to bring to life the iconic story of obsession, wealth and excess.
California Ballet is seeking male and female dancers with a strong ballet background and the ability to move in multiple dance styles. Ensemble dancers may be asked to understudy lead roles and will fill minor roles.
Ladies: Partnering and pointe experience is a plus. Wear form fitting clothes and bring ballet, pointe, jazz and character shoes.
Men: Partnering experience is a plus. Wear form fitting clothes and bring ballet and jazz shoes.
One professional male tap dancer position is available. Must be very proficient in tap to be considered for this role. Bring your tap shoes if your are interested.
Go to GatsbySanDiego.com/auditions to download the registration form. Please bring a completed form, resume, headshot, and dance photo. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow time for registration. Please arrive warmed up and prepared to dance.
Rehearsals will run September and October at the California Ballet studios in San Diego, CA. Performance run October 23-25, 2015 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Expected contract to last between 6-8 weeks depending upon the role you are cast in. Contract pay begins at $1,500.
