SpectorDance invites choreographers to apply for our festival of new dance the Choreographer’s Showcase.
SpectorDance is committed to presenting a wide variety of dance artists from all over the state, the nation, and the globe. We aim to provide opportunities for choreographers to perform beyond their home cities and for our local audiences to see new cutting-edge works.
Our winter Choreographer’s Showcase will take place on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 8 pm and Sunday February 12, 2017 at 2 pm.

We are looking for a male dancer who is adept at partnering and has presence onstage. Ballet and/or musical theatre background are a plus. This joyful show is with live music –singers SoVoSo– and with world circus and a variety of dance forms. Rehearsals in Santa Cruz mostly only weekends–starting Oct 20. Must be a fast learner. Contemporary Dance Tech & Rep workshop, Aug. 8-12, is part of the International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley. It offers dancers an hour technique class followed by time to learn new repertory and rehearse. Participants perform what they learn in the professional, open to the public, Gala Festival Concert, Aug. 14. Please Note: Workshop meets 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. MWF and 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m Tues/Thurs. (You make take the workshop but choose not to perform) Participants in the workshop/performance can be considered for performances with The Lively Foundation in the coming season. A minimum of four dancers are needed. Male or female, highly skilled in modern-contemp and/or ballet. Ages mid-teens to any adult age. Free home stays available in the neighborhood for out of towners. Workshop led by Leslie Friedman. In her unique career she was chosen by the US State Dept. and host countries for historic, ground breaking performance tours around the world. She was the first American dancer or artist of any kind to perform for an elite Russian audience with joint sponsorship after a 14 year break in US/Russian cultural relations; the first to perform, choreograph & teach in China with sponsorship of US & Chinese ballets; similar “firsts”in India, Egypt, Poland, Spain, England & others. Cheered by critics & audiences across the US & on 4 continents.
Choreo-Cubator© gives dance artists an opportunity to make new work or polish a work in progress and then perform it in a public performance. This choreography workshop is open to all kinds of dance. There are 6 working sessions, Aug. 2, 4, 5, 9, 11, 12; followed by the Showcase performance (performing is not required), Aug. 12. All sessions meet 6:00-7:15 p.m. an earlier session will be arranged on Aug. 12th, performance day. Free homestays available for out of towners. Positive energy, supportive atmosphere conducive to creativity.

The San Pedro ♥ Festival of the Arts is a free family event featuring dance, music & Visual Arts/Crafts Booths in the Ports O’Call Village on the waterfront. This will be its 10th year. The festival was again awarded a Department of Cultural Affairs, City of LA, Festival Grant, and for the first time a 2016-17 Community Investment Grant from the Port of LA. Several summer/ fall free previews lead to the main event on Sept 17-18, 2016.
Last year the Dance component included 14 professional and 7 pre-professional companies from all over the Southland. You can see more about past festivals at www.triartSP.com. There is an interest in all dance forms performed by professional companies and Honorariums for all professional companies selected.
Outdoor Marley covered stage 32 x 28 ft. Each set will be 10-25 minutes. The programs open with 2-3 pre-professional groups each day, so we’d like to hear from schools also. The turn out on each day was several thousand over the days events. We anticipate good coverage for the event, both before and after. Early deadline is through 6/30, late deadline 7/15.

The New Urban Naturalists seek 8 – 10 movement practitioners for a performance at the Montalvo Art Center’s 5 Hour Sculpture/Experiments in Public Space. This is a multi-day workshop and performance. Transportation available for Bay Area artists. Participants will stay at the historic villa in the artists studios free of charge. The HIVE initiative in its third season and has just completed a project in Brooklyn, NY at Triskelion Arts as HIVE: New York. In the Fall the community will be co-producing a studio showing at the Gail Towbes Center for Dance, home of Gustafson Dance and State Street Ballet. Participants contribute to the production tasks, production costs, and distribute the ticket sales and funds that come in through crowd funding.
