Santa Barbara Dance Theater seeks 2 male dancers

Santa Barbara Dance Theater is seeking [two] male dancers with strong technical and performance skills for our 2015-16 season. Start date: early December, 2015 and late January 2016. We generally work 20 hours per week, with performances in January, April and May, 2016.

Santa Barbara Dance Theater (SBDT) is a small professional modern/contemporary dance company under the artistic direction of Christopher Pilafian, in residence at University of California, Santa Barbara.

The company’s current repertory includes works by Edgar Zendejas, Christopher Pilafian, Alice Condodina and Jerry Pearson. Guest choreographer Joshua Beamish and others are planned for the upcoming season.

Company members have worked with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Jennifer Muller/The Works, Eisenhower Dance, and trained at CalArts, UC Santa Barbara, NYU Tisch School of the Arts and The Governor’s School for the Arts.

Calling All Choreographers! The HIVE seeks works for November 1, 2015 performances


The HIVE is seeking proposals from choreographers, performance collectives/collaborations and filmmakers for our 2nd Annual BUZZ on November 1, 2015 to be held at Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara, California.

In its 2nd annual showcase, the HIVE seeks to build a reputation as an organization that offers a sustainable model for artists to present work without the financial strain of putting on a major production alone. The HIVE’s mission is to present quality dance works that show creative flow and freedom of expression that also serves as a way to connect artists throughout the Southern California area.

The HIVE is interested in participants that:

  • are willing/able to work within the HIVE to support the production process, including taking on various tasks and checking with the Queen Bee upon completion
  • are willing/able to pay a production fee of $180 that can be made back with certain stipulations
  • have a minded focus on establishing a sustainable model for artists in Southern California
    works well with others and is interested in sharing in the work of the HIVE as well as the honey!

Works should be no longer than 10 minutes. Upon acceptance, you will be sent information about the allotted a 20 minute technical rehearsal, cue sheets, final schedule, and worker bee tasks. For any additional questions or clarifications, please email us at

Choreographer and Chinese Dance expert Dragon Sun is looking for male dancers to learn and perform a masculine Chinese Dance piece at our Chinese New Year 5-year Anniversary show. Show scheduled for 2/6/16 at Elings Performing Arts Center at DPHS. Great opportunity to work with an award-winning professional dancer and choreographer, learn the beautiful style of Chinese dance, and get together and work with like-minded male dancers for a unique experience. Alexandra won the title of Spirit of Fiesta by competing among 11 other dancers on April 18th at La Cumbre Junior High. Alex attends San Marcos High School where she is involved in Varsity Mock Trial and Kids Helping while also serving as the Captain of the Marquettes and maintaining a 4.6 GPA. She was nominated as 2015 Goleta Teen of the Year and was chosen as the 2009 Jr. Spirit Runner up as well as the 2013 and 2014 Spirit Runner Up. Alex looks forward to serving as a positive role model for youth and representing her community as 2015 Spirit of Fiesta! Congratulations to Alex!

Call for Dancers With Strong Ballet and Modern Technique

Call for dancers with strong Ballet and Modern Technique for a project for this summer and early fall. Santa Barbara choreographer Weslie Ching is looking for 3-5 with dancers that can commit to 4-6 hours rehearsal per week starting approximately 7/6 and until 9/1 in to be determined location in Santa Barbara. Showing scheduled at Center Stage Theater on 9/3 with opportunities for festival performances after. Rehearsal stipend and performance pay. Do not need to live in Santa Barbara after 9/3 to participate in future performance opportunities.

Santa Barbara Historical Dance Workshop Scholarship Opp

Working scholarship: Free tuition and $400 toward expenses. Send resume and a written paragraph describing why you are interested in the workshop to If you have experience teaching yoga, please detail the style and your training. If you have any questions please ask. This scholarship is offered to dancers 19 to 55 years old. We are looking at the individual, their financial need and their vision on how this workshop will enrich their own contribution to dance.
