REHEARSALS
Sunday, October 9, 16, 24, 30 from 10 am – 4 p.m. &
Wednesday, November 2 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

PERFORMANCES
Nov. 3 & 4, 2016
9:30 & 11:30 am
(Two performances each date)

• Dancer must be an experienced performer; have strong technique; and be comfortable working in contemporary modern styles.
• Musicality is a must. “Pictures at an Exhibition” will be performed to live music performed by the Classics for Kids Philharmonic Orchestra.
• Dancer must have strong partnering skills.
• The dancer should be a charismatic performer, with the ability to convey a character.

COMPENSATION
$400 Stipend

The Engagement Ring: Call for Proposals

Malashock Dance is commissioning 3 Southern California dance artists to create new, interactive dance experiences for The Engagement Ring.

This series is designed to provide opportunities for artists to develop unique, hour-long audience-centric events.

Each artist will present new work during one of the following months: November 2015, December 2015, April 2016 & June 2016.
These exciting dance events should be specifically designed to take place in, or around, Dance Place San Diego within historic Liberty Station.

A panel of qualified dance experts will review thoughtful, well-developed, innovative projects that push past the boundaries of traditional dance presentation.

Successful applications will create meaningful, impactful art experiences by including one or all of the following criteria:
• Offer new perceptions about how art is delivered and experienced
• Explore unique methods of actively encouraging interaction and inclusion
• Present innovative investigations that facilitate dialogue with audiences
• Include the use of technology
• Include interdisciplinary components
• Are fun and accessible

Selected artists will receive a stipend of $800.

Malashock Dance Audition Notice

Malashock Dance seeks a male dancer for the central role in CHAGALL. CHAGALL is a full-length dance-based musical about the life, work, and relationships of Russian Jewish painter Marc Chagall. The show will be choreographed by John Malashock and will feature 10 dancers, two actors, eight singer/actors, six musicians and one aerialist. CHAGALL is a production of Malashock Dance, in association with La Jolla Playhouse and the UCSD Department of Theatre & Dance. 13 performances will take place at La Jolla Playhouse, Nov. 28 – Dec. 13, 2015.

  • Dancer must be an experienced performer; have strong technique; and be comfortable working in contemporary modern styles.
  • Musicality is a must. CHAGALL will be performed to live, original music.
  • Dancer must have strong partnering skills.
  • The dancer should be a charismatic performer, with the ability to convey the character.
    (No singing or speaking will be required.)
  • The Chagall dancer will need to be present in San Diego from September 27 – December 13.
  • The Chagall character is of Eastern European/Jewish decent. Dancers with this look are strongly encouraged to audition.

Auditions will occur in March, 2015 (New York, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego).
