Open to all local dancers from Grade 3 to Intermediate. Andy Irvine is one of the great Irish singers, his voice one of a handful of truely great ones that gets to the very soul of Ireland. He has been hailed as a tradition in himself. Musician, singer, songwriter, Andy has maintained his individual performing skills throughout his 54 year career. As a soloist, Andy fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a travelling lifestyle that reflect his lifelong influence - Woody Guthrie.
His repertorie concists of traditional Irish songs, dexterous Balkan dances and a compelling canon of his own self-penned songs. Andy is like an old friend. Banjo player Richie Stearns and fiddler Rosie Newton grew up miles and a few decades apart, but the fated combination of their unique skill, varied musical influence, and honest storytelling comes together to achieve their common goal: to create music that people can connect with.
Their music finds itself at a junction of Americana, old-time, and folk, bringing a new sound to traditional music with their signature trance-like, boundary pushing instrumental arrangements and angelic harmonies. He will be making his debut at the Aucklund Folk Festival this year with 5 instruments porch board bass, snare tam, bottleneck dobro,harmonica, acoustic guitar.

Glass Heart String Choir's music is compelling in its use of sweeping cinematic strings layered and looped, intricate harp, piano and guitar arrangements, and Ian's engaging and emotive vocal delivery. Their songs harks back to baroque composition technique at times, but also draw from classic folk writers such as Leonard Cohen and contemporary counter-parts such as Joanna Newsom, and Andrew Bird.
