The Piñata Dance Collective presents the 3rd annual ¡FLACC! 2016 featuring 15 choreographers of the Latino diaspora spread out into 3 different programs each night to celebrate the intersections of gender, sexuality, nationality and indigeneity among the artists. Responding to recent social and environmental attacks, ¡FLACC!’s curator, Liz Duran Boubión, is creating a regenerative platform of resistance, highlighting Queer/Trans Latinx Choreographers on Friday, Dec. 9th/ An evening dedicated to Las Mujeres, for Latina choreographers on Saturday, Dec. 10th/ and for Los Indigenistes, featuring a mixed program that highlights the indigenous/native layer of identity among FLACC choreographers on Sunday, Dec. 11th.
Invited among the 15 dance artists, are highly acclaimed visiting companies, Momentum Dance, from Guatemala, Rulan Tangen’s, Dancing Earth from New Mexico, and Primero Generación Dance from the greater Los Angeles area, collaborating with choreographer, Joey Navarrette, and offering a different piece for each program. Featured choreographers from the San Francisco Bay Area include: Detour Dance, Victor Talledos, Sebastian Hernandez, Javier Stell-Frésquez, Davalos Dance Company, Diana Lara, Karla Quintero, Juliana Mendonca, Gabriel Mata, Zoe Klien and Cuicacalli Dance Company.
Each evening will be followed by refreshments and a 20 minute panel discussion with the artists. We encourage purchasing Discount Festival Passes to enjoy ALL 3 evenings.
