Workshop | $300-1200

Camp Fareta is a 9-day residential workshop (primarily for adults) hosted by Youssouf Koumbassa, a master dancer, choreographer, and teacher from Guinea, West Africa, and featuring many other master dancers and drummers from Guinea, Mali, Senegal, and the Congo. It is a village-style immersion in African drum and dance, held at a beautiful setting in the southern Sierras.

The program includes a variety of dance and drum classes per day at different levels, plus singing and music classes and fun evening events. Stay just a few days, or all nine!

Camp Fareta happens near Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, so plan to make a vacation of it and see the sights! There is also a small lake at camp for swimming and canoeing, or you can just relax under the trees and enjoy the warm weather and beauty of nature. Share a dorm-style cabin with other campers or bring your own tent.

Every year campers have raved about the gourmet international menu, including West African meals; vegetarian and vegan options are available. There’s Kids Camp for the young ones, and you can sign up for work-exchange if you’d like a break on the fees.

Participants come to Camp Fareta from all over the world. The nearest airport is in Fresno, and we arrange shuttles to get campers to camp from the airport.
