SOULSKIN Dance presents the final chapter of its trilogy, A Pop Culture Journey: from Folsom Prison to a Night at the Opera. Artistic Director Adrianna Thompson curates a night that’s “…a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n roll…” as she and her collaborators take the audience on a journey through the mournful grit of Johnny Cash to the glitter and glam of Queen. Thompson directs a roster of exceptional artists – fashion designers, DJs, musicians, media designers and dancers – to create an electric dance environment that blurs the line between performance and party.

The season features former Batsheva Dance Company member, Dylan Elmore. The London-based Elmore joined SOULSKIN’s dancers in SF for a 2-week choreographic residency, creating a new work to complement Thompson’s eclectic Queen and Cash suites. Returning collaborators include fashion designer Jamielyn Duggan of Eimaj Design, and SOULSKIN’s favorite music maven, DJ CAMCON. Duggan brings her fashion that moves esthetic to the stage, outfitting the dancers in a “future 50’s” vibe with subtle undertones of Victorian era flair. DJ CAM CON spins live, laying her own beats over the popular music soundscore, making the familiar become new. Friday and Saturday’s performances wrap up without winding down when DJ CAM CON invites the audience onto the floor a post show dance party.
