Few dance companies reach the age of 35, but Benita Bike’s DanceArt is now 35 years old! This Los Angeles based modern dance company is known for its musicality, elegance, and expressivity. The jewel of DanceArt’s 35th Anniversary Season will be the Saturday, April 9, 8pm concert and reception at Cal State Long Beach’s Martha B. Knoebel Dance Theater, 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, California, 90840, next to the Carpenter Center for Performing Arts Center. Tickets for this event are $27, $22 student/senior/DRC, and $15 children. Discounts are available online with advance purchase at www.DanceArt.org/tickets. Questions? Call 818-353-5734.

This Cal State Long Beach performance will feature new dances “For Rose” and “On Beat 3” (premiere). “For Rose,” a duet for dancers Rachele Donofrio and Dominique Lyons, is about the passing of Benita’s mother Rose. Stark and poignant, this dance touches on complicated feelings of love, discordance, and death. “On Beat 3,” a trio for dancers Linnea Snyderman, Trudy Niess-Stevens, and Clare Kiklowicz uses driving percussive rhythms and colorful off-balance movements to explore a world of ordered chaos. The program also includes dances from repertory.
