About the Network

The California Dance Network (CADN) website was developed by an alliance of dance service organizations throughout the state in partnership with the California Arts Council and The James Irvine Foundation to strengthen, connect, unify, and promote the state's thriving dance field.

The goal of this site is to provide exhaustive access to dance-related contacts in California, though you're likely to find dance affiliates from all over the world here. Whether you want to check out all the flamenco, hip hop or ballet companies in the state, find a tap class in your area, learn about graduate study in dance, or read the latest dance news and reviews from around the country, you've come to the right place. You can help us grow the network by creating a profile and spreading the word!

Among the goals of the CADN is making sure our elected officials understand the enormous contribution- cultural and financial- that the dance field makes to the state of California every year. Help us ensure funding for dance by contacting your representatives and making your voice as a dance supporter heard.

The new website aims to empower the California dance community. Specifically, it seeks to:

PROMOTE the services of the partner organizations, encouraging dance artists to plug into regional resources and contribute to the dance community at the local level

GRAPHICALLY MAP every dance artist, venue, and presenter in CA as a means of communicating the breadth and depth of dance in CA to the dance community, government officials, potential funders, and the public at large

GATHER and publicize census data about the California dance field, including number of companies, choreographers, dancers, dance venues, and studios and throughout the state, as well as organizations serving dance

COMPILE state-wide and national NEWS about dance, including news briefs and articles with commenting capabilities, promoting a vibrant, active and informed dance community

PROVIDE dance artists with TOOLS to facilitate online self-promotion. Without knowing anything about web technology, this web site will make it easy for dancers and presenters to create profiles that will be found by web search engines such as Google.

PRESENT AUDIENCES with EVENTS and timely information about dance events in their locale via a state-wide performance calendar and Google ads
